Main points for Undergraduate College Grants
Graduating from high school and entering college is one of the most difficult and daunting things to do. Many high school students have heard about the many type of Undergraduate college grants and the graduate school grants that are available but have not taken the time to research them. These grants are seen as one of the greatest ways to fund a good college level education. Four types of undergraduate college grants and graduate school grants are available:
- Student Specific undergraduate college grants- these are low income, non-traditional and for all those students that are financially disadvantaged and cannot fund their studies from the college to the doctoral levels.
- Student Specific undergraduate college grants according to subject- These are grouped together and given for various subjects, like engineering, science and health. They can also stimulate additional enrollment in these all-important fields that are usually under- represented.
- Degree level college grants – These are for students at a certain level in their degrees and are designed to promote greater completion.
- Minority level undergraduate college grants- These are given to all students who are seen as a minority or are disabled in some way. These scholarships and grants are given to women, African Americans and Native Americans. Many of these grants are also available to the students who are technically not white.
Non-traditional undergraduate college grants
Various non-traditional undergraduate college grants are given out. These are given out to all types of students who are not in the college age bracket but are trying to pursue their college dream anyways. For example, if a student graduated from high school and entered college several years later then these types of college grants are for them. Getting a higher college education at a community college can also help secure these grants. There are also some non-traditional college grants given to pursue other types of educational endeavors.
There are also numbers of undergraduate college grants that are especially given out to the disadvantaged students helping them attend college. In this regard, the grant helps the financially disadvantaged by helping to pay for not only tuition but also food, utilities, rent and books. Such a grant is the Pell grant and covers all the expenses for which traditionally an adult would be responsible. A number of graduate level grants can also be given to students to pursue higher studies abroad.
Just like the undergraduate college grants, these graduate grants can help doctoral and graduate students fund their higher studies. Help can be taken from private organizations, community colleges as well as the government. Usually the doctoral and the graduate students have far greater options than the undergraduate ones for pursuing their dreams of attaining higher education much more effectively than their undergraduate counter parts. Most of the graduate level grants that are given cover a number of expenses like traveling, research as well as living expenses. They are more easily received than the undergraduate college grants.
